Why join the U8 global executive committee?
The U8 provides fantastic opportunities for ambitious and committed student leaders to take ownership of a unique student initiative with a global reach. You will be given a great deal of responsibility and gain valuable transferable skills.  All roles are voluntary.
We welcome applications from all countries, providing you have the commitment and ability to perform your role well.
U8 alumni have gone on to work in high-profile private sector, public sector and non-governmental organisations. This is a chance to stretch yourself. Do you have what it takes?

1. Webmaster
This person will head a team dealing with the U8 website, and will have responsibility for new development and maintenance of the U8 website (www.u8development.org). We currently are in the process of building a new website; one of the priority roles of the webmaster will be to implement this.

Key Responsibilities
1. Ensuring the maintenance of an attractive, low bandwidth website and the development of new material.
2. Replying to regular email correspondence.
3. Working closely with other team members and the RAL director.
4. Determining website strategy.

Skills Needed
1. Good IT skills and knowledge of web development
2. Teamwork
3. The ability to remain motivated, and to motivate others

The knowledge of using Content Management Systems such as Joomla will be highly advantageous, but is not a requirement, so long as the applicant is willing to learn.

We also need other members of our website; email us with details of your skills and we'll try to find a role to suit you.

 

 2. Research Coordinator (with rapid promotion possibilities)

You will have responsibility to planning, implementing and monitoring the ongoing U8 research projects, which are highly likely to utilise a Wiki system. You do not need to have a strong research background, but should be highly organised and able to maintain motivation for at least 12 months. Following a two-month trial period, you may be invited to take up a senior role within the U8, depending on our needs and your performance.

Key Responsibilities
1. Liase with other U8 members to develop a research scheme that is accessible and enjoyable for participants.
2. Act as a first point of contact for people with research enquiries.
3. Monitor the ongoing progress of research projects.
4. Arrange for publication of completed projects.

3a. South Asia Coordinator and 3b. East Asia Coordinator of University Links
N.B. These are two different positions, held by different people. The regional coordinator positions of University Links are rewarding roles that involve coordinating the activities of the U8 student groups in a specific regions. You would be part of the University Links department, working in close cooperation with a team of other regional coordinators from around the world.

Key Responsibilities
1. Collaborating and maintaining regular contact with our university groups in your region
2. Updating the U8 exec on the activities of regional member student groups.
3. Informing student groups of the activities of the global U8.
4. Approaching new universities in your region and informing them of the opportunities and the U8 offers.
5. Attending regular Skype meetings of the University Links Department.

  4. Experience of a local university environment.
  5. Enthusiasm
 
4. Designer

The U8 has a number of ongoing design needs, particularly a monthly commitment to the Newsletter, but also the occasional other document or theme. Because the Newsletter is works to a tight schedule, you need to be able to work strict deadlines.
 
Key Responsibilities

1. Designing monthly U8 Newsletters, with a 1-2 week timeframe.
2. Taking occassional ad-hoc tasks for design of U8 publications.
 
Skills Needed
1.    Adobe Illustrator or similar.
2.    Knowledge of HTML.
3.    Organisational skills
4.    Commitment
